Diego da Silva Costa (Spanish: [??dje??o ??a ??sil??a ??kosta], Portuguese: [??d??je??u d?? ??siwv?? ??k??st??]; born 7 October 1988) is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for Spanish club Atl??tico Madrid and the Spain national team.
Born and raised in Brazil, Costa began his senior club career playing for Braga, but never initially played for the side prior to relocating to Spain to sign with Atl??tico Madrid at age 19, in 2007.
In his return to the Spanish capital, Costa blossomed as a goalscorer, and helped the club win a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey title, and an UEFA Super Cup. However, his homecoming was also short-lived, and in 2014, Costa was the subject of a transfer to Premier League club Chelsea, in a deal worth ???35 million (??32 million).
A dual-citizen of Brazil and Spain, Costa initially featured in friendly matches for Brazil in 2013, before declaring his desire to represent Spain, having been granted Spanish citizenship that year. He made his senior debut for Spain in 2014 at age 26, and has since had 24 caps, and scored 10 goals, and has represented them at the 2014 and 2018 FIFA World Cups.
