Mike Wolfe’s childhood started with an unusual hobby when he grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa. Driven by the need to make money since he and his siblings were brought up by their single mom, Mike Wolfe started picking at the age of 6. It was not easy for his other to raise three young children and thus started Mike Wolfe’s interest in picking. It first started when he picked a bicycle and sold it later for $5 and he has been hooked since. Mike Wolfe learned early in his life that bartering things for what he wanted was fun. He managed to get his first motorcycle by bartering a pair of stereo speakers for it. As of 2018, Mike Wolfe’s net worth $4 million.
As a young man, from 1989 to 2000, Mike Wolfe opened two bicycle stores as well as “Antique Archeology” in LeClaire, Iowa. He started filming as he went along and was joined by his childhood friend, Frank Fritz.
Mike Wolfe believed that his picking adventures with Frank Fritz would be great to televise and show the viewers how much their treasure hunt was. He tried to pitch his television idea for more than 5 years before it was picked up by History Channel in 2010. The show was called “American Pickers” and since then the show has been a roaring success. The first episode was viewed by 3 million viewers who were hooked to an exciting show of discovery in different parts of America.
