Russell Horning was born on 19th December 2001, in Lawrenceville, Georgia USA and is a social media celebrity and dancer, who rose to fame as the Backpack Kid after appearing in the television series “Saturday Night Live”. He has been active in the entertainment industry since 2016.
Horning has already released two original songs - Flossin and 2Litt. He has a younger sister Jill, and his mother Anita Redd is his manager. He does traditional as well as online schooling. The normal school is to keep up with his social environment while the online part is so he can travel for his videos.
His signature dance move is called "The Russell" which fans also refer as ''Flossing". A few NFL players have also adopted his signature move to celebrate touchdowns. In his back pack, he carries a water bottle, a charger & a fidget spinner to add weight to the bag.
He started posting the videos on Instagram after he performed before a live audience in a church camp in 2014. His first big break came in January 2015, when a guy with 700,000 followers tagged him online.
In December 2016, Rihanna posted a video of him on her Instagram for her reaction to the eight Grammys nomination. In May 2017, he danced on Saturday Night Live with Katy Perry. The performance quickly went viral, with much of the attention coming towards dancer Russell Horning, dubbed the "Backpack Kid", whose arm-swinging dance move ("the Floss") became widely imitated.
In December 2018, his mom, Anita Redd, filed the lawsuit on behalf of her son, suing the makers of the popular video game Fortnite for allegedly ripping off his signature dance move: the Floss. Horning said “Personally, I don’t really know the law like that, so I can't tell you if they are taking advantage of me or why. But my mom and my management team insisted on suing.”
He celebrated his 17th birthday with his debut four-song EP, "SwagPack Kid" and explained the EP has been in the works for the last year and a half, which “is a long time for four songs, I would think.”
